SICOR began in 1981 in Rovereto, Trentino, in the mountains of northern Italy, as a manufacturer of elevator traction machines. Over more than four decades the company grew from a gearbox workshop into one of the world's most trusted elevator motor suppliers, now exporting to more than 60 countries.
The backbone of that growth is the MR12 gearbox: after SICOR acquired the legacy production line from SABIEM's Bologna plant in 1999 and consolidated it at Rovereto, MR12 became the industry benchmark in its class, with more than half a million units installed worldwide. Alongside the historical MR family, the SV series (compact villa/low-capacity cars) and SH series (built for modernization and new installs) round out SICOR's full geared machine range.
In gearless machines, SICOR's permanent-magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) — the SG and SGS series for standard and reduced-headroom shafts, plus the ultra-compact cantilever-pulley SW and central-sheave SWS series — serve projects where machine-room space is tight. All are engineered and tested to the current EN 81-20 and EN 81-50 standards, with brakes certified for unintended car movement (UCM) and ascending overspeed protection.
