AKIS traces back to 1978 in Konya, a city in central Anatolia long known for its metalworking and foundry heritage. The Akış family started with a small casting workshop and, over four decades, built it into one of Turkey's largest and best-known elevator motor manufacturers — a group that still operates under family leadership today, trading as AKIS Elevator Motors.

The first real turning point came in 1996, when AKIS began producing geared traction machines and formally entered the elevator motor market. The bigger leap followed in 2010: working with Konya Teknokent, AKIS's engineering team completed development of a gearless machine and launched serial production at the same plant — turning the company from a geared-only manufacturer into a full-range player across both machine types.
