AKIS Elevator Motors

Operating from Konya's Organized Industrial Zone since 1978, AKIS is Turkey's largest elevator motor manufacturer, producing both traditional geared machines and modern gearless traction motors on its integrated Konya lines, available in the Atlas Asanbar Arsh catalog for new-install and modernization projects.

AKIS traces back to 1978 in Konya, a city in central Anatolia long known for its metalworking and foundry heritage. The Akış family started with a small casting workshop and, over four decades, built it into one of Turkey's largest and best-known elevator motor manufacturers — a group that still operates under family leadership today, trading as AKIS Elevator Motors.

The first real turning point came in 1996, when AKIS began producing geared traction machines and formally entered the elevator motor market. The bigger leap followed in 2010: working with Konya Teknokent, AKIS's engineering team completed development of a gearless machine and launched serial production at the same plant — turning the company from a geared-only manufacturer into a full-range player across both machine types. A year later, in 2011, AKIS added Turkey's first long-distance, high-speed flat flexible cable to its production lines.

Today AKIS's gearless range spans the AK and heavy-duty AK 2- series (rated up to 3,500 kg), the compact MUGEN series, the S and HS homelift-rated families, the belt-driven KS series, and the AD/AKD line. Alongside it, sister brand Volpi — an in-house group brand — produces essentially the same designs under parallel model names on the same Konya lines (VOLPI MRL100, for instance, mirrors AK 100 spec-for-spec). On the geared side, the MUGEN MF, VOLPI VF, and Z/ZF series cover more traditional machine-room layouts.

AKIS Elevator Motors — company timeline

  1. 1978

AKIS began as a small foundry workshop in Konya's Organized Industrial Zone, central Turkey, gradually moving into the elevator industry.

  2. 1996

Geared traction machine production began, formally bringing AKIS into the elevator motor market.

  3. 2007

Production of frequency-controlled (inverter-driven) elevator control panels started.

  4. 2010

The gearless machine project developed at Konya Teknokent was completed and mass production launched at the Konya plant.

  5. 2011

Mass production began of Turkey's first long-distance, high-speed flat flexible cable — a product not previously made domestically.

  6. 2014

New investment went into the foundry unit, and a continuous line-production system was established for the elevator machines.

  7. 2022

AKIS's newly built foundry plant went into full operation, expanding in-house cast-parts capacity.

With 40,000 m² of closed production space in Konya, AKIS bills itself as Turkey's largest elevator motor manufacturer.

AKIS's Konya plant runs on 40,000 m² of closed production space within a 106,000 m² site, and it is a genuinely integrated operation: a dedicated foundry (Akışoğlu Döküm), a cable plant, the Frenbu brake brand, and an in-house test tower all sit under one industrial roof. Combined with exports to more than 40 countries across five continents, that integration has made AKIS one of the most established Turkish elevator-motor suppliers in regional markets, Iran included.

Atlas Asanbar Arsh carries AKIS's geared and gearless machines in its catalog so engineers and contractors can match rated load, speed, and machine-room layout to the right Konya-built model for their project.

FAQ

Common questions about AKIS motors

Both. AKIS has produced geared machines (MUGEN MF, VOLPI VF, Z/ZF series) since 1996, and since 2010 has also built a wide gearless range — AK, heavy-duty AK 2-, MUGEN, S, HS homelift, belt-driven KS, and AD/AKD — on the same Konya lines.
